My entire life is centered around traveling. Being a travel enthusiast since my adolescence, I made the best use of the opportunities available to travel far and wide. This spring, one of my friends who is based in Ajman, UAE invited me to his engagement. I was thrilled by the opportunity to visit a new place in the UAE. So, the following week, I departed from Chennai via Indigo Airlines. I reached Ajman as per the scheduled time.

The Ajman International Airport has witnessed a surge in construction activities in recent years. Expected to be completed in 2018, this AED 1.2 billion (USD325 million) project includes an area for a big MRO center and a terminal which can serve more than 1 million passengers. It is part of a long-term plan to increase the flow of tourists to this part of the UAE.

I was received by my friend at the airport. It took us half an hour to reach his residence from the airport. I was given a warm welcome on my arrival.

Touring the major tourist spots around Ajman

Despite its small size, Ajman does have a number of tourist spots that are worth a visit. The next evening, I took out some spare time to discover the major attractions of the city. I started off with the Ajman Museum. Once a fort, it has a rich collection of Emirati weapons and manuscripts. The distinctive features of the fort are the twin wind towers, two watch towers and an impressive gateway with two cannons.

The Mowaihat archeological site is based at the city's outskirts. Discovered in 1986, it contains numerous soft-stone and painted Umm Al-Nar ceramic vessels, more than 3000 beads, two stamp seals, a few copper implements and remains of many people. During its discovery, the Mowaihat tomb was the first proof of Umm Al-Nar occupation of the region.

Exploring foodie's paradise

The region's cuisine has been deeply influenced by Iranian, Lebanese and Arabic food. I had heard about the popularity of the starter and salads here. So on the day of my friend's engagement ceremony, I started off with the Tabbouleh, a salad made from green onions, cucumber, and tomatoes. Seasoned with lemon juice and fresh mint, it created the perfect mood for an appetising meal.

The Matchbous was a mouthwatering lamb based recipe. Prepared using tomato, stew, and rice with spiced lamb, it provided me with a perfect experience of enjoying Arab delicacies at its best. I marveled at my friend's menu choice. I concluded my lunch with Shawarma, which was served with a wide range of fries, vegetables, garlic sauce, and pickle.

Return to Hyderabad

My friend's engagement party was a highly enjoyable one. I didn't feel that there was a great difference in ambiance from what we have at home. The most memorable moments of the event were captured in pictures. As I boarded the Indigo Airlines for my return flight, I remembered the best moments of my trip. The Chennai to Ajman flight trip will stay etched in my memory for a lifetime.
